Former OnePlus CEO’s Nothing Ear 1 Earphones Launch Date Announced

Nothing’s Ear 1 earphones will launch on July 27, six month after the company’s existence was announced online.

Nothing is a project of Carl Pei, former CEO of phone company OnePlus.

Relatively little is know about this initial Nothing Ear 1 pair of earphones, but they are expected to be a true wireless set. This means there is no cable between the earpieces, as in most wireless earphones released in 2021.

Nothing head Carl Pei has previously said this first product “combines notes of transparency, iconic form, and refined functionality.” Combine that with the concept design Nothing posted in March and it seems safe to expect a pair of true wireless earphones with a transparent or translucent outer casing.

The most important parts, the price and the sound, are as yet unknown.

Nothing’s approach might be compared to that of OnePlus around its 2013 early days. It has tried to capitalize on mysterious viral marketing, although Nothing has also teamed-up with Teenage Engineering to work on product design.

Teenage Engineering produced a highly desirable OP-1 portable synthesizer in 2011. It is still available today, and the company also makes several striking portable audio products.

Nothing does not appear to have yet recreated the viral sensation of OnePlus. It currently has 56 thousand followers on Twitter and 43 thousand on Instagram, a fairly humble beginning.

It will also have a job to stand out in the saturated world of true wireless earphones, where smaller brands like Lypertek and Anker already act as challengers to traditional veterans Sony, Bose and Bowers & Wilkins. However, the Nothing Ear 1 is one to watch if you are considering a new pair of earphones.
